Physical Therapy Learning Institute (PTLI) founders, Geneva R. Johnson and Lynda Woodruff, chose the name "Peach Blossom Learning Institute" as the initial name of this institute in 1991. The reason the peach blossom was chosen was because Dr. Woodruff was based in Georgia and the initials PBL also represented problem-based learning which was an initial focus of the institute. In 2000, the name of the organization was changed to its current name, Physical Therapy Learning Institute. In 2019, a new logo was designed with a simple, stylized peach blossom to hearken back to the foundations of the institute.
